Why do I need a 1.5 hr appointment versus a 1hr appointment?
Unless you have specifically requested a longer appointment , we would have had a discussion about your current health and needs and the complexity of your case, your requirements and quality service delivery assist in determining the extra time allotment.
Will I need to continue to have appointments indefinitely?
No. Professional naturopathic care should aim to restore a patient to the point where he/she becomes independent of treatment and is able to maintain normal health using natural means such as good food, fresh air, appropriate exercise, sunlight, positive and ‘life-affirming’ lifestyle choices. Sometimes clients need gentle reminders, or sometimes an ongoing health partner to be able to provide the support, information and advice that you need to achieve your goals. This process is client-driven dependent on needs.

Why do I use an external laboratory?
Why is feedback important?
Feedback, whether it is perceived as ‘good’ or ‘bad’, is vital to ensuring your continued health success and is always welcomed.
A good example, in the context of undertaking a food elimination diet where food intolerances are suspected, is what the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) describe as ‘withdrawal’ reactions. Some people can experience a temporary “flare-up†in their symptoms and can include headaches, nausea, fatigue, skin eruptions and other such ‘bad’ or ‘negative’ symptoms. However, these usually are brief or can last up to 10 days after which, it is common that the symptoms settle down. This ‘bad’ feedback should be communicated as it usually indicates underlying intolerances and is considered a ‘normal’ part of the healing process.
There are many other examples of ‘bad’ feedback in naturopathic practise, which actually can help direct treatment options.
Communication and feedback is actively encouraged, after all, you know your body better than anyone else.
Why do I have to do all the work?
A naturopathic practitioner has a couple of important roles –
1) to educate people to take more responsibility for their health and assist them to understand the fundamental principles of health relating to rest, exercise, nutrition and life-style; and
2) using natural therapies to remove any obstructions whether chemical, physical or psychological which may interfere with normal function, health and vitality.Â
This is why you have to do all the work. Sorry, if you shortcut yourself, you shortcut your health.

What if I am taking prescription medications?
This is OK. Your doctor has prescribed medication for a medical reason. You should never cease medication without discussing this with your medical practitioner first. In fact, there are some prescription medications that should not be ceased suddenly or without the supervision of your medical practitioner, as this could cause more harm than good.Â
In assessing health & wellness options for you, all the interactions, contraindications and warnings indicated for food, herbal medicine and supplement options will be advised. Depending on your case, this may require further research and investigation. No apology will be made for thoroughness when it comes to your health.
What is ‘informed choice’?
Education underpins your informed choice. With the exception of medical emergencies, your health and wellness is your responsibility and your choice. In fact, the Australian Government has ANPHA …… My responsibility in the provision of health and wellness services to you is to educate you….
What is Nature’s Medicine ‘upfront policy’?
“Up, front and centre†is what Sarina remembers a Warrant Officer shouting when she was in the Australian Army Reserves. And this is exactly what it means in terms of healthcare service and treatment options for you.
All relevant health information and education will be presented up, front and centre focusing on transparency, informed health choices, achieving desired health outcomes and two-way feedback that supports your health goals. Feedback, whether it is perceived as ‘good’ or ‘bad’, is vital to ensuring your continued health success and is always welcomed.
What is the nature of our relationship?
Sarina has many years experience in coaching & mentoring staff and clients and believes that the best and most satisfying individual results are achieved when a person is empowered to act when coupled with the acknowledgement of personal responsibility, informed choice, committed action and vision. Hence, your relationship with Sarina can best be described as a partnership.
Why have I been prescribed liquid herbs and supplements?
Liquid herbs and supplements are more easily absorbed by the digestive system. The technical term is that they are more ‘bioavailable’. When your digestive system is over-burdened whether because of chronic disease, poor food choices, or even chronic constipation, amongst other reasons, it is difficult for the body to properly digest, absorb or assimilate vital nutrients. Using liquids requires minimal digestion.
Why does Nature’s Medicine use products that are made only for ‘practitioner dispensing’?

“GP is my case manager†– what does this mean?
Can I still see my GP and see a Naturopathic practitioner at the same time?
Yes absolutely, and in some cases, this is actually the best way to manage heath conditions and to maximize health outcomes. It is strongly encouraged that you inform your GP of any naturopathic advice and treatment options, including natural medicines such as food, herbs and supplements. In this way there is total transparency, avoids the potential for adverse reactions (for example, grapefruit cannot be taken with certain prescription medications), and optimizes every care opportunity.
What if I have to cancel an appointment?
Life happens, but out of respect and fairness to others who may need an appointment, the clinic has a 24 hour cancellation policy. If less than 24 hours is given, 50% of the consultation fee may still be applied.
